NM Consumers for Affordable Prescriptions Coalition Campaign Director

Position Description

About us: Health Action New Mexico (HANM) is a statewide non-profit healthcare advocacy organization founded in 1995.

About the campaign: HANM manages NM Consumers for Affordable Prescriptions, a campaign to address the lack of access to affordable prescriptions in NM. This coalition was launched in late 2020 to educate the public and policy makers about the issue of drug pricing in the state, and advocate for state solutions to bring down costs of expensive medications. Legislation was introduced in 2021 to form a Prescription Drug Affordability Board, as eight other states have done. www.newmexicocap.org

We are currently hiring a campaign director for the Coalition to champion this effort in NM.

Scope of Work:
-Strengthen the NMCAP coalition by expanding membership, providing the Coalition with ongoing remote (virtual) and in-person engagement as that becomes safe for everyone, and planning and implementing member engagement actions to support a successful 2023 legislative
effort.

-Identify patients with drug pricing personal stories and prepare them for testimony and/or sharing their story in written form for publication.

-Lead the effort with the HANM team and national partners to engage legislators on our issue in 2022 , including a robust statewide strategy to raise the campaign’s profile with voters.

-Be a spokesperson in ongoing public education and messaging about drug pricing. This requires a strong working relationship with national subject-matter experts and issue partners, to stay abreast of the latest information and research regarding drug pricing, as well as state drug pricing and successful strategies and implementation in other states.

-Work with the HANM PDAB team to implement a legislative work plan to engage Legislative leadership, to build maximum support for legislation both in the interim and during the 2023 Session.

-With the HANM team, work to ensure Executive Support for PDAB legislation for 2023 and its successful implementation.

Position requirements:
-Demonstrated experience in coalition leadership and organizational skills

-Demonstrated experience in policy advocacy and/or implementation

-2+ years’ experience in issue campaigns, legislative advocacy and/or issue campaigns, preferably in NM

-Working knowledge of New Mexico policy-making and organizing

-BA/BS or more education (relevant experience of 5-7 years in state issue advocacy can be substituted; please include a compelling cover letter telling us why you’ll be great at this)

-Strong oral and written communication skills
