New Mexico faces shortage of oral health providers. As a result, 1/3 of children sit in class with advanced gum disease. Health Action NM proposes a workforce solution: dental therapists - midlevel dental care providers who provide basic routine care under the general supervision of dentists in remote and underserved communities.
