My name is Christine Herrera. I do enrollment here at La Familia Medical Center.

Currently we’ve enrolled approximately 95 consumers into Medicaid since October 1. I had one gentleman come in yesterday, completed his application October 16 and by October 25 he had already been approved through the online YesNM. So, it’s kind of neat they are getting a little quicker approvals.

We haven’t accepted any applications for the Exchange yet because of the federal website, but we’ve been giving out a lot a lot of information. And now we’re currently giving out the applications, so they fill out the applications, bring them back to us already filled out so it makes the enrollment process a little easier.

Right now, we’ve only done enrollments here in the clinic. But we will be going to different events trying to enroll consumers. We are also currently working with Santa Fe Youth Works to schedule some time with them, as well as Santa Fe community college to enroll some of their students on site here in a couple of weeks

Saturday we will be enrolling at the Quality of Life event at the Zona del Sol. We’ve had probably over 250 phone calls from October 1, and addition to that probably another 30-40 people who have come in who didn’t qualify for The Expansion, who we’ve given information to about the exchange.

Medicaid expansion has been going smoothly. What we do is we call them a day or two in advance, and make sure they have all their proper documentation kind of do like a phone interview with them to get all the documentation so there are no delays on their application.

Originally we were telling consumers 30-45 days for any kind of approval, and right now in less than a week in a half they’re getting approval. This gentleman who actually got accepted, he was really excited. I absolutely love it. I love being able to communicate with people and get to know different people and help them.
